Engagement Rings….Hand made vs casting ?

The 2 biggest differences between a hand made engagement ring and cast one are price and quality. A cast ring which has been made using C.A.D ( computer aided design ) takes next to no time to create whilst a hand made ring of a similar design can take many hours to create.

At the Diamond Jewellery Studio when a Diamond ring is hand made to hold and show off a diamond it starts from a square rod and is worked by a Master Jeweller into the final design. Through the various stages the metal is being tempered and work hardened so when it comes to the finished ring the metal is at a perfect hardness and can be guaranteed for life against any metal defect.

Rings that are made using CAD are created in wax first and then cast which can open the doors to many problems. If the metal has been poured either too hot or too cold it can be brittle or soft and have many surface issues such as cracking and porosity. Many Diamond rings are being made this way and passed off as “ hand made” which they are definitely not. The art of hand making Diamond rings is becoming a thing of the past  as Master Jewellers become harder to find.

With so many companies competing for business many are turning to CAD to reduce costs but ultimately producing inferior products, yet claiming them to be hand made.

The Diamond Jewellery Studio have workshops in both Brisbane and Sydney and clients are encouraged to sit with the Master Jeweller who will create their Diamond ring or Engagement ring and go through the manufacturing process together.

All their Diamond rings and Engagement Rings are hand made and guaranteed for life.

What makes emerald cut engagement rings special?

While brilliant cut diamonds and princess cut diamonds are modern favorites for brides to be, those looking for a unique and timeless ring are now opting for emerald cut engagement rings. Distinctive in shape, an emerald cut diamond is usually rectangular with cropped corners. Set amongst claws, the diamond doesn’t so much sparkle like a brilliant cut diamond as opposed to lending itself to more dramatic flashes of light. It is a combination of this dramatic and elegant appearance and the fact that it is a less “common” choice that makes emerald cut engagement rings so special.

When looking for an emerald cut diamond or emerald cut diamond ring, be sure to be discerning about the quality of the diamonds. Given the fact that the cut is so open, flaws and colour in the diamond are easily identified by the naked eye. Emerald cut diamonds can look stunning presented both as a solitaire as well as with accent stones and can be used in bold modern settings as well as classic, timeless settings. However you choose to set your emerald cut diamond, compared to many other modern day brides- you’ll be sure to be wearing a unique ring!

The ultimate shopping guide for unique engagement rings

When shopping for unique engagement rings, you simply must think outside the square! If you visit major shopping centres and big retails names expecting to find yourself range unique engagement rings, you are sure to come away bitterly disappointed and disheartened.

To find unique engagement rings, the key is to look for leading modern designers- both in your own backyard and internationally. Look online for award winning designers, scour their range for concepts that you like- rather than trying to find that elusive one ring that stands out from the rest. This way, not only will you discover what elements create uniqueness in design, but you’ll also quickly identify your own taste when it comes to rings.

Knowing what you do and don’t like is integral to getting a unique engagement ring. After all, most people that want a unique design will opt to have a master jeweller create their ring from scratch. The ability to describe and convey your taste to a jeweller will be the key to getting it absolutely perfect! So our best advice is to research anywhere and everywhere you can, and then bring together concepts that you like to create a unique style that will be admired by all that see it for years to come!

How much do I spend on an Engagement Ring?

The tradition is for men is to spend a minimum of 2 months salary on your special ladies engagement ring. We are sure that this would shock both men and women. However these days it really comes down to what you can comfortably afford to spend without re mortgaging your house to get it. Many people like to make a  big and bold statement with their engagement ring with going as big as their budget will allow, but when you do that the quality of the diamond may suffer to allow for the bigger size. So there starts to become a fine line between big and ok to fractionally smaller but very bright and full of fire. The Diamond Jewellery Studio like to educate their clients on the differences between each type of diamond there is available to help them understand what is good and what is not. This will allow the client to make an educated and well informed decision on what will suit the budget.

There are a few things to consider in deciding your engagement ring.

  • Are you a girlie girl or a little rough with your hands, this will determine the appropriate height of the ring.
  • Are you planning on wearing it all the time?
  • Would you like something Uniquely Designed just for you?
  • Do you like yellow gold, white gold or platinum?
  • Maintenance of the ring. Like rhodium plating of white gold etc
  • Insurance of the ring

The Diamond Jewellery Studio have offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Before you make the all important decision on your engagement ring make sure you have spoken with one of the offices for their expert advice, huge selection of diamonds at wholesale prices and unique diamond ring designs.

Options When Buying a 1 Carat Diamond Ring

A 1 carat diamond ring is a beautiful jewellery item. Especially popular for engagements, 1 carat diamond rings are easily customisable to suit individual preferences.

The four elements to consider when purchasing a diamond are its cut (the diamond’s reflective properties), clarity (presence of blemishes or inclusions on the diamond), color (the presence or absence of color), and carat. The term carat refers to the weight of the diamond. Typical carat sizes range from ¼ carat to 2 carats. One carat equals about 200 milligrams. There is no carved-in-stone rule when it comes to determining what size of diamond to purchase, but the 1 carat diamond ring is a popular and timeless choice.

Keep in mind that a 1 carat diamond ring does not necessarily have to be from one stone. Total carat weight is used to describe a ring of multiple diamonds. This is a good option for some people, as the diamond configuration can resemble many intricate or even simple designs. However, some people do prefer the single solitary diamond.

Popular 1 carat engagement diamond ring styles for solitaire diamonds include:
•    Traditional styles: round, oval or marquise diamonds, with a traditional tiffany setting.
•    Unique styles: princess cut or heart-shaped with a flush mounted setting.
•    Bridal Set Engagement Rings: a solitaire paired with a plain or diamond accented band.

Popular styles for 1 carat engagement diamond rings of multi-stone settings include:
•    Bridal Set Engagement Rings: multiple stones accenting a smaller center stone.
•    Three stone engagement ring: three similarly-sized diamonds instead of a single focal point.
•    Accented rings: small accents to add to the beauty.

The Diamond Jewellery Studio are experts in assisting clients with this process, and are knowledgeable about the diamond industry. Discussing with them your ideal jewellery item will bring you one step closer to having it.
