Two diamonds having the same carat weight can look very different in their overall appearance due to the way they have been cut. If the stone is too shallow it will have a large diameter, too deep and a small diameter, yet both weighing the same.
Precise scales are needed to weigh them as it needs to be 100% correct considering the price of diamonds. They are usually weighed to 3 decimal places.
